Discussion of User Requirements IIASA/MSF/TUW

We met to discuss the user requirements, focusing on the role of the final mobile phone application.

Things to consider:

What kind of satellite-derived information will be provided to decision-makers?

–> focus in images instead of time series; use arrows to indicate future conditions

SMS-based service or smartphone?

–> SMS-based services are well-accepted, but lack the features that characterize SATIDA

–> two complementary services will be developed (smartphone app incl. SMS function)

How to include satellite-derived information into the MSF decision-making process?

The drought indicators (or a combined drought indicator) will be calibrated according to reference information from Fewsnet, Reliefweb, etc.

Afterwards a color code can be applied according to the scheme of current MSF food security assessments.

This way satellite data become part of an already existing framework.

Region of interest?

Southern parts of Ethiopia and Northern parts of the Central African Republic
